Tragedy on Andhra Highway: 11 Dead After Hyderabad–Bengaluru Bus Fire in Kurnool

A horrifying accident on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru highway has left the entire nation in shock. In the early hours of Friday, a private sleeper bus travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire near Chinna Tekur village in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district, killing at least eleven passengers and injuring more than a dozen others.

According to police reports, the bus carrying nearly 40 passengers was allegedly hit by a two-wheeler, which caused the fuel tank to burst and led to a massive fire. Within minutes, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. Passengers sleeping inside woke up to screams and chaos, struggling to escape as thick smoke filled the bus.

Local villagers rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue passengers even before the fire department arrived. Unfortunately, the flames were too intense, and eleven passengers lost their lives on the spot. The injured were immediately shifted to the Kurnool Government General Hospital, where several victims are said to be in critical condition.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

“I am shocked to learn about the devastating bus fire accident near Chinna Tekur in Kurnool. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones,”
he said in a public statement. The Chief Minister also assured that the government will provide full support to the injured and the families of the deceased.

District authorities have launched a forensic investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Officials suspect a fuel leak or electrical short circuit may have intensified the blaze after the collision.

This incident has once again raised questions about road safety and bus maintenance in India. Experts are urging authorities to enforce strict fire safety rules, install emergency exits, and conduct regular inspections for all private and public long-distance buses.

The Kurnool bus tragedy stands as a grim reminder of the urgent need for stricter road safety measures to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
